Livan Hernandez: During an altercation with an elderly man, allegedly tries to strike him with a golf club. Hernandez tied for the lead in losses in the NL last year, despite his team going to the World Series.

Barret Robbins: Stopped taking his medication for treatment of depression and bipolar disorder. He lapsed into a less-than-ideal mental state. He was dismissed from the team for the Super Bowl, and will miss the Pro Bowl as well.

LeBron James: Accepts a $50,000 Hummer as a gift, prompting an investigation. After being cleared and retaining his amateur status, backs Hummer into little old lady and then skips the scene of the accident (note, hit and skip, not hit and run). The he accepts two jerseys from a sporting goods store. After this he is stripped of his eligibility.

Bruce Froemming: Umpire Bruce Froemming decides to book his own airline ticket to Japan rather than have major league baseball do it as he instructed. In a recorded phone conversation, he calls baseball's umpiring administrator Cathy Davis a "stupid Jew bitch." Not only does he lose the opening day assignment in Japan, but he's suspended for 10 days without pay.

U. Arizona basketball team: During a road game, the #1 ranked college basketball team stole $80 in candy bars from a vending machine. After the controversy breaks, the team loses to unranked Stanford at home.

Ken Caminiti: In Houston, a warrant is issued for Ken Caminiti for violating his probation resulting from a cocaine possession conviction last March. The former MVP also owes $120 in lab fees.

Ron Artest: Flips off the fans in open court and receives a 4 game unpaid suspension. This is his second suspension this season — his previous sentance was for hurling a TV monitor and smashing a $100,000 camera.

Jerry Sloan: Shoves an official, receiving a 7 game hiatus from the league. He was previously suspended for bumping a ref.
